Amsterdam, Noord-Holland
Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is a vibrant, multilingual, and highly lively city with over 1.4 million residents in the metropolitan area. Situated along the IJ River and inhabited since around the 13th century, Amsterdam started as a fishing village on flat lands around the mouth of the Amstel.

Amsterdam is the heart of European life sciences and health innovation. The city facilitates collaboration between hospitals, research institutes, and corporations. This includes two international universities – the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam- as well as medical facilities such as the Amsterdam University Medical Centre (AUMC) and the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). More focus on medical technology can be found in the communities located at the Amsterdam Science Park and Amsterdam Health and Technology Institute.
